We’re extremely pleased to report that, once again, Genelec has been shortlisted in the globally respected Mondo-DR Awards for AV – this time in the Sustainable Company category for our strong sustainability credentials and Retail & Leisure category for our collaboration with Informationsteknik on the AV installation at Jacy’z Hotel & Resort in Gothenburg.
Receiving recognition for our approach to sustainability – a matter we prioritise equally alongside sound quality and profitability – is always a very proud moment for us. When we were founded back in 1978, we were already treading lightly, building only long-lasting, serviceable loudspeakers and nurturing employee well-being. Since then, we’ve continuously expanded on these values to make Genelec a global leader in sustainable loudspeaker solutions. For this award, Mondo-DR’s expert panel will consider – among other aspects – our successes in working culture, environmental management, sustainable supply, communication of credentials, sustainability reporting and developmental goals. You can find out more about our sustainability credentials by clicking here.
Our second nomination this year is the elegant installation at ESS Group’s luxury Jacy’z Hotel & Resort in Gothenburg, Sweden, which was planned and executed in close collaboration with AV integration specialists Informationsteknik. With over 130 Genelecs, from both our analogue 4000 Series and more advanced Smart IP family of networked installation loudspeakers, Jacy’z is able to offer a premium sound experience that honours the high expectations of its visitors. Before the panel make their final decision, they’ll measure this project’s prowess in terms of aesthetics, ease of installation, sonic performance and customer satisfaction. To see the installation for yourself, you can watch our video here.
The MONDO-DR Awards – run by Mondo-DR Magazine – were first launched in 2017 to reward the best new fixed installation projects around the globe. Now in its seventh year, the winners across all categories will be chosen by an expert panel of independent judges and previous award winners.
We’d like to extend a very warm thanks to Mondo-DR, Jacy’z, Informationsteknik and our own team for making these nominations possible – and we’ll be hoping for a great result at the forthcoming awards ceremony, which is held on the 14th of June at the InfoComm show Orlando, Florida.

The collaboration between ApexPro, Audio Visual Worx and Genelec is expected to bring cutting-edge audio technology advancements, providing customers in Southern Africa with enhanced audio solutions and pushing the boundaries of sound reproduction.
When being hosted by Clifford Pereira and the Genelec team in Finland, I was struck by their unique and inspiring company culture; they have an emphasis on staying true to their roots and founding principles but at the same time being forward-thinking, investing heavily in R&D and their people. In a highly commoditised, global environment, it was refreshing to be in the company of industry professionals with a genuine passion for technology, audio and music,” says Justin Acres, Director of ApexPro.
Together, ApexPro, Audio Visual Worx and Genelec are poised to shape the future of the audio industry and deliver unparalleled audio experiences to professionals and enthusiasts alike.
“ApexPro specialises in distribution within the music retail market, primarily focusing on delivering a wide range of audio equipment and solutions to meet the needs of musicians, performers, and music enthusiasts.
Audio Visual Worx provides solution-based systems in the audio-visual industry, focusing on delivering comprehensive audio-visual solutions for various applications, including corporate settings, installations, and professional broadcast projects.
“Having these two distribution arms, we can effectively cater to the diverse needs of both the music retail market and the solution-based systems sector, ensuring a comprehensive and tailored approach to audio distribution,” Acres explains.
Genelec is renowned for its exceptional professional audio speakers, highly regarded in the industry for their outstanding sound quality, accuracy, and reliability. Specifically designed for critical listening environments like recording studios and broadcasting facilities, Genelec speakers incorporate advanced technologies, such as the Directivity Control Waveguide, ensuring consistent and transparent sound reproduction across a wide frequency range.
Additionally, Genelec offers a range of Audio Visual (AV) speakers, which cater to any vertical market that requires an installation speaker, from hospitality, corporate and architectural. With Genelec’s newly released IP range of speakers, the company combines their outstanding audio quality with network connectivity, allowing for flexible and scalable audio solutions in various environments.
With features like PoE (Power over Ethernet) and advanced control options, Genelec’s IP speakers offer seamless integration into networked audio systems for easy management and distribution of audio content.
Audio Visual Worx product specialist, Dwaine Schreuder, adds that “in the studio and broadcast market, Genelec doesn’t need an introduction as they are globally recognised and extensively used by industry professionals. Building on this solid platform, we are thrilled to introduce Genelec’s range of IP install speakers to Africa, which is not a vertical historically associated with Genelec in the region.
“Audio Visual Worx is uniquely positioned to offer value-added designs to studio and broadcast professionals,” Schreuder adds. “We not only have an impressive Genelec Showroom, but we have also incorporated Genelec’s IP range of speakers throughout our Johannesburg-based headquarters.”

With great pleasure, the Genelec Artist Room recently welcomed Seventine – the victors of our 2021 ‘Bändikisa’ band contest – to perform a special live version of their song ‘Feast from Disgrace’.
Run in collaboration with Finnish rock legends Apulanta, Genelec’s ‘Bändikisa’ competition challenged our Finnish-speaking community to submit their songs for a chance of winning a pair of 8320A monitors, a GLM kit, a studio day at Apulanta’s very own headquarters and of course, an Artist Room live session. Having beaten four other finalists with their song ‘Hateseeder’, Seventine went on to receive the bulk of their prizes in late 2021. Due to the pandemic, their Artist Room appearance had to wait a little longer, but it was only a matter of time!
Seventine, made up of childhood friends Paavo Auvinen, Kim Miettinen, Mika Kontinen, and Väinö Kemppinen, have played their own brand of modern metal together for about five years. During that time, they’ve taken inspiration from iconic bands such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Bullet for My Valentine while making plans to record their debut album.

We wish Seventine the very best of luck with their musical adventures! Make sure to follow them on social media: Facebook: @Seventine Instagram: @seventineband_official
Genelec celebrates truthful sound and the passion that powers it.
Genelec – the global leader in professional loudspeaker systems – is marking its 45th anniversary this year by launching the Genelec 45 World Tour, which celebrates the truthful sound and the passion that powers it. The extensive tour combines demonstrations of Genelec studio monitors with a program of premium learning and listening experiences, complemented by a major global music collaboration. The Genelec 45 World Tour provides audio professionals, sonic creators, and audiophiles with a unique opportunity to experience the beauty and power of truthful sound wherever they might be located.
Central to the tour is the Genelec | Experience series of premium events, which includes face-to-face listening sessions at Genelec’s growing international network of Experience Centres, complemented by hybrid and virtual events, regional partner events, and traditional trade shows. The Genelec | Experience will not only provide an opportunity for customers to audition Genelec’s state-of-the-art studio monitors but will also allow customers to learn about and experience a wide range of Genelec stereo and immersive loudspeaker systems in a controlled, critical listening environment.
For those that can’t attend the Genelec | Experience in person, Genelec will also be making full use of its digital channels throughout 2023 to deliver a program of online masterclasses, tutorials, webinars, and informal knowledge-sharing sessions, while the new Genelec Virtual Showroom allows customers across the Professional Audio Monitoring, AV Installation and Home Audio segments to instantly access valuable Genelec information and resources in a unique and visually engaging interactive VR environment. Additionally, the Create With Genelec loan campaign will be run in selected territories to allow audio professionals, creatives and music educators to experience Genelec technology in the comfort of their own environment.
The final element of the tour is the Genelec | Harmony Tracks global music collaboration, which encourages even greater end user engagement in Genelec’s 45th celebrations. Genelec | Harmony Tracks invites participants to submit a piece of music using their own unique style, sound and local culture to create a new, powerful, and unifying patchwork of international musical harmony. The contest winner will receive a pair of Genelec 8330A studio monitors as a prize, and for every song entry submitted, Genelec will donate money to the charity Music Fund, which collects musical instruments, repairs them and gives them a second life by donating them to music schools and socio-artistic projects in Europe, developing countries and conflict zones around the world. Genelec will also be encouraging regional partners to get involved – with the goal of collecting and re-distributing 45 different types of instruments globally in a celebration of the world’s wonderfully diverse musical cultures.
“Over the last 45 years we’ve created quite a company legacy, but none of this would be possible without our customers,” comments Genelec Managing Director Siamäk Naghian. “So we want to use this anniversary year to look forward to the future, and empower and celebrate the people that create and love sound and music. Our passion for perfecting sound is shared by all the professionals and creatives who rely on Genelec technology every day. By inspiring each other, we’re consistently driving the industry forward – and that’s something truly worth celebrating!”
