Prosound install EV EKX system at Afro Bru in Maboneng

Afro Bru, a brand new upmarket lounge in Maboneng has installed an Electro-Voice EKX series PA system in their prestigious venue.

Situated in the heart of Maboneng, Afro Bru is set to become the go to venue for the Sunday jazz sect, as they host live bands every Sunday in the recently completed split level room.

As per clients brief, Prosound supplied 8 x EKX12 tops and 4 x EKX15 subs, driven by the ever reliable EV Q Series amplifiers. Processing is done by a Rane Hal 1. This PA was chosen as it’s suitable for a venue that lays live music, but has to keep one eye on noise levels, as this is also a residential neighbourhood. The PA has been installed and flown on Eurotruss Tritruss. All work has been undertaken by Prosound, which includes flightcasing, cabling and install. The project has been overseen by Pepe Khumalo, who is also charged with making sure the events run smoothly and all equipment is up and running. Part of the after sales service offered by Prosound.

The parties on a Sunday in Maboneng are legendary, and Afro Bru’s Sundays Kool are set to up the ante in terms of where to get your groove on before Carte Blanche starts.

Situated in the heart of downtown Johannesburg, Maboneng has been a beacon in the progress made in the inner city rejuvenation currently underway. It’s been described as more hipster than Williamsburg, and it truly is a melting pot of creatives, artists, restaurants, bars and live music venues, as well as being a desirable residential area. While the area continues to expand and grow, Afro Bru is right in the heart of Maboneng.

Crotchet Music WOWs The Baseline with ETX Rig

Crotchet Music WOWs The Baseline with ETX Rig

Crotchet Music WOWs The Baseline with ETX RigAaron from Crotchet Music has long been a big fan of the Electro-Voice ETX range of powered loudspeakers. Having purchased a pair of ETX35’s and ETX18SP subs initially, he has been doing numerous gigs with great success and has steadily grown his stock of ETX speakers to also include ETX12P’s and ETX15P’s.

Crotched Music was contracted to provide PA and a recording for a sold-out Live Gospel show at the infamous Bassline. Aaron came to the venue with his Electro-Voice ETX rig consisting of the 2 x ETX35’s, 4 x ETX18SP’s and two ETX12P’s as side-fills. The initial response to his proposed rig was of disbelieve and a sense that the system will not be sufficient for the gig – however everybody was blown away by the performance of the system, and was full of praise how great it sounded.

Prosound provides Electro-Voice PA for Tailor

Prosound provides Electro-Voice PA for Tailor

Prosound provides Electro-Voice PA for TailorProsound were asked to help out with PA for Tailor, the London based South African artist at Music Box “Hotspot Concerts “on Saturday 21 April.

Always keen to help out local musicians where they can, and being able to provide a fit for purpose PA system for the intimate 60 seater venue, Prosound supplied the latest range of ELX200-10p tops with a single ELX200-12sp sub. Not too loud and obtrusive for the discerning music listener, with clarity essential for Tailor’s heartfelt lyrics and brittle melodies.

So impressed with the system that Glyn Berridge, owner of Music Box and curator of the Hotspot Concerts will be holding on to the EV ELX200 system for a while to come. With more top local acts booked to play at the “under house” parties, we’re certain this PA system is going to get some good use out of it.

Prosound have always been forerunners in providing equipment for bands, vocalists and DJs whether they’ve made it to the big time, or just starting out on their musical journey.

While Electro Voice has been the brand of choice for established acts like Wonderboom, Prime Circle and Just Jinjer for many years, Prosound will always be looking for ways to assist emerging talent, and have proudly supplied BCUC, DJ Soosh and Shortstraw with gear.

Prosound makes first Evolve 50 sale

Prosound makes first Evolve 50 sale

Prosound makes first Evolve50 saleMichael Goodyear has become the first owner of an Electro-Voice Evolve 50 speaker system in sub-Saharan Africa. The system was sold through the manufacturer’s local distributor, Prosound, and will be used for smaller corporate events and shows.

‘The Evolve 50 was first shown in South Africa at Mediatech in 2017, but the system was only officially available for purchase in southern Africa in February 2018 as Bluetooth certification had to be resolved with local licensing authorities,’ explained Prosound pro audio sales specialist, Pepe Khumalo. ‘A long time has passed since Mediatech and we ran the risk of the impetus created at the show being lost. Having the first system sold and out there being used means we can promote the product much better and have some real-world references.’

With this first system now being used on events, Mr Khumalo is certain it will create more business for the company. ‘The Evolve 50 is such a compact system and offers exceptional audio quality, it is a truly versatile system that makes it very attractive for events companies,’ he reasoned. ‘Together with the back-up that Prosound offers – having been an Electro-Voice partner for over 40 years – makes it an even more attractive solution.

‘We have already received confirmed orders for a number of systems,’ continued Mr Khumalo. ‘We can also now demo the system with a bit more confidence and there has been great interest and excitement about the Evolve 50 – so we are expecting a lot more orders.’
