Dutch fans tour Euro 2021 with Electro-Voice

Football fans cheering on The Netherlands in Euro 2021 are benefitting from a new matchday experience from the famous Orange Double Deck Bus, thanks to a freshly installed sound system ready to help whip up the atmosphere into a frenzy

HGL from Tilburg equipped the bus with a solution calling on the combined benefits of Electro-Voice and Dynacord. Sound inside the bus is courtesy of six EVU-1082/95 cabinets with low end support from a ZX1-Sub. Meanwhile four MFX-15MC loudspeakers pole-mounted on a pair of Dynacord FX20-PRO subs provide powerful sound reinforcement outdoors. Power for the solution is from a single Dynacord IPX amplifier while SONICUE sound system software and a CMS-1000-3 mixing console are part of the solution to provide perfect mixing and control.

City council building, Majilis Bandaraya Johor Bahru, has been installed with an array of ETC fixtures by AFS Engineering. Located in the heart of Johor Bahru, the new government building is 15 storeys high, with seven additional underground levels.

AFS Engineering has installed a variety of ETC fixtures including Source Four Zoom, ColorSource Linear and Source Four Fresnels into the Majilis Bandaraya Johor Bahru’s auditorium and banquet hall. The company also installed SmartPack ThruPower dimmer packs, and all lighting is controlled via an Element 2 console, which runs on the Eos platform. According to ETC Asia, the brand was chosen because of the reliability of its products, the 24/7 support available locally and the manufacturer’s warranty.

The Majilis Bandaraya Johor Bahru, which has received the Green Building Index Recognition as a mark of its ecological credentials, is used to host frequent government meetings and forums as well as major public events.

ETC launches luminaires and power controls for LED systems

ETC has unveiled two new product ranges, designed to work together: ArcSystem Navis, a range of LED luminaires as well as an F-Drive system with customisable output cards, combining together to create an LED system for a variety of spaces. The Navis line of luminaires fixtures are available in a range of colour temperature options from 2700 K to 5000 K alongside an RGBW colour-mixing option.

A 3000 K fade to warm variant is available as a warm light at lower intensity levels, with aesthetic changes able to be made with a range of magnetic trim plates, clip-in optical accessories and twist and click beam angle lenses.

The Navis 100 features three wind-down clamps for ceiling thicknesses from 0.5mm to 20mm, with Navis 100 products able to be transformed into a surface cylinder or pendant system by sliding into hardware accessories.

An optional wall wash accessory is also available, allowing the Navis 100 to provide a blanket of light for a wall or corridor application.

The F-Drive LED power control is designed for use with ArcSystem Navis luminaires and third-party fixture applications, using category type cable with RJ45 connections.

The F-Drive range can include both an R12 rack mount option and a W1 wall-mount option.

The R12 option includes 12 slots for swappable output cards with four channels of power output each, with mix-and-match driver cards available that are compatible with a variety of LED fixtures such as constant current and constant voltage loads.

The cards are hot-swappable, allowing changes to be made while maintaining power for the rest of the LED system. Power and data support is provided for up to 48 individually controllable Navis 100 luminaires.

Hollow Hearts Sound Fantastic with DPA Microphones

Hollow Hearts Sound Fantastic with DPA Microphones

Norwegian sound engineer Tom Meyer has moved the entire band over to DPA and is using its d:facto™ Vocal Microphones for all five vocalists. Norwegian sound engineer Tom Meyer has built up a large collection of DPA microphones over the years and has always been very happy with the results they deliver. He is now spreading the word to artists he works with and has recently persuaded pop singer Lisa Skoglund to switch to one of the DPA’s new 2028 Vocal Microphones.

“As soon as the 2028 Vocal Microphone was released, I ordered one for Lisa and she is so happy with it that she takes it with her wherever she is singing,” Meyer says. “I take a selection of DPA microphones with me on every gig I do because they make my job much easier – and they are popular with my clients, as well.”

Based in Bardu in northern Norway, Tom Meyer has been tackling live sound engineering projects since 1990 and now runs his own company, TM Tour Production. He first became aware of DPA through the 4011 Cardioid Microphone and was very impressed with its sound, particularly when he used it to amplify large conferences or kick drums for touring bands.

“I felt that I could gain them much higher than anything else and they sounded so good,” he says. “When I moved north and started by my own company, I decided to get the best tools possible and gradually started buying DPA. I now have more than 30 of them.”

In recent months, TM Tour Production has been using its DPA microphones on a variety of projects, including live gigs with Hollow Hearts, a folk band from Tromsø.

“The first time I worked with Hollow Hearts, I put up a DPA d:facto™ Vocal Microphone for the band’s singer Ida Løvheim. After singing two lines she stopped and said ‘Tom this mic sounds fantastic!’. That evening went so well and they were so happy with the response from the audience that they now work with me most of the time and I have done more than 40 concerts with them.”

The mic package Meyer uses for Hollow Hearts – and for many of the other bands he works with – includes a 2011 Twin Diaphragm Cardioid microphone with 4011 windscreens on kickdrum, a 4018V with a compact preamp on snare top, a 2011 on HiHat, overheads and guitars, a 4099 Instrument Microphone on snare (under) and toms and 4018v d:facto Vocal Microphones for all vocalists

“Hollow Hearts plays quite low on stage, so the openness of the DPAs sounds really good,” he says. “I think the 2011 in particular is fast becoming an industry standard because you can put it everywhere and it always sound great in your PA.”
